Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How can we learn more about your company before committing ourselves to a contract with Space@Work?  How much will the design fee cost?

A: All prospective clients are encouraged to set up a free initial consultation with one of our design consultants. Our consultants would be more than happy to answer any questions you have and to provide you with further information about our company, past projects and our scope of services.  A good faith estimate will be prepared and reviewed with you in advance of commencing any work.

Q: What is the difference between an ASID and NYS Certified interior designer and a decorator?

A: Interior decorators are not regulated and carry no standardized requirements.  New York State, NCIDQ, and ASID members, on the other hand, must pass an examination, are voluntarily certified by the State, ensuring that they adhere to a code of ethics and meet minimum requirements of education and experience.

Q: Can't I get these services for free when I buy the furniture or finishes?

A:  Nothing is free, the cost is included in the furniture and finishes.  We break this out so you can see what is for service and what is for materials.  Also, we are able to consider any product on the market as we are not promoting just our own exclusive lines.  We take a minimal mark-up for handling if we purchase for you.

Q: What should I prepare for the initial meeting with the Designer?

A: Please be prepared to discuss your budget, goals, and needs at your initial consultation. All of these issues are essential in determining what kind of project is structurally and financially feasible.  We are also happy to review the proposed lease agreement and build out specifications, and advise you what to expect or what you may need to further negotiate.

Q: What other professionals should I consult with on a building project?

A: Depending on the extent of your project you may need to consult with a structural engineer or a registered architect. Depending upon your project scope, you may also want to consult with a variety of other trade professionals.  We are happy to work with you on this and team with the necessary professionals.
